Phyllis J. Hill Faculty Award for Exemplary Mentoring
The College of Applied Health Sciences seeks nominations for the Phyllis J. Hill Award for Exemplary Mentoring in the Edmund J.
James Scholar Program. Named in memory of Dr. Phyllis Hill, a beloved
professor and college administrator, this award annually recognizes a faculty member in the College of Applied Health Sciences
who has done an outstanding job of guiding and mentoring students throughout their James Scholar experience. The James Scholar
Program, named for the fourth president of the University of Illinois, Edmund J. James, is the honors program within the College.
It is designed to provide unique learning opportunities for undergraduates who have achieved academic excellence. Mentoring by
faculty is critical to ensuring an engaging and rewarding scholarly experience for James Scholars. Faculty mentors exemplify a
deep commitment to providing an honors experience that allows students to:

- Think critically about issues in their field
- Better understand the process and complexity of collection and analysis of data
- Become contributors to the body of knowledge that currently exists
- Question and create new knowledge through their research
All current AHS faculty who are tenured, tenured-track and instructional staff are eligible for this award provided that
they have been in the College for at least three years. Nominees must also have supported James Scholar student research efforts
for a minimum of one year to include both fall and spring semesters.
Current James Scholars and alumni of the James Scholar
program may nominate faculty for this prestigious award. The deadline for nominations is October 22, 2010.
