King James McCristal Scholar Award
The King James McCristal Scholar Award was established in 1988 in honor of
King James McCristal, dean of the College of
Applied Health Sciences dean from 1961–1973. The annual award recognizes faculty excellence for
significant contributions in research, teaching, service humanitarianism, administration, and
advising. Recipients’ names are added to a permanent plaque displayed at the College of Applied
Health Sciences Librar and receive a monetary award.
Nomination and Selection
- Nominees must hold the rank of full professor within an academic unit of the College of Applied
Health Sciences and be nominated by a faculty member within the college or by a campus colleague
knowledgeable about the nominee’s scholarly contributions.
- An award committee is appointed each spring by the dean and consists of the three previous award
recipients. The committee reviews the nominations according to the guidelines for selection, ranks the
nominees, and submits the name of their choice to the dean.
- At the fall college meeting, the recipient is publicly recognized and presents a seminar
highlighting his or her scholarly work.
